Greetings,

My name is Father William Hearn. Here is a brief sketch of my life as a priest over the past 46 years in the Diocese of Grand Falls.

My hometown is Harbour Grace where I was born in 1949. I had the privilege of being taught by the Presentation Sisters in elementary school and the Christian Brothers in high school as well as many committed lay teachers. I attended Memorial University for four years and then took up residence at St. Peter’s Seminary in London, ON. I was ordained a priest in Harbour Grace by Bishop Alphonsus Penney in 1975.
My priestly journey throughout this Diocese began as an assistant at the Cathedral in Grand Falls-Windsor. My first assignment as pastor was to St. Patrick’s Parish, Fogo Island in 1976. I have served in almost twenty parishes since then - all along the northeast coast, central Newfoundland and on the south coast in St. Alban’s. I have enjoyed this ministry and continue to do so immensely. I have been blessed to have known many inspiring, generous, faith-filled Parish members, Religious, Priests and Bishops over the years. I have a great love for the ‘outdoors’ and this Diocese provides opportunities for enjoyment to the full through fishing, hunting, walking and admiring God’s beautiful creation.
Bishop Anthony Daniels appointed me Vicar General for this Diocese on September 13, 2013. It is an honour to serve in this capacity. I am presently and happily in priestly ministry at St. Joseph’s Church, Gander and St. Anne’s Church, Glenwood since June 2016. So far, so good!!! Thanks be to God. I am still fully alive. The journey continues…I may see you in my travels or in Church. If so, we will say ‘hello’ or ‘hi’ or ‘how’s she goin’, bye’?
When all is said and done, God willing, I hope to remain a humble follower and proud proclaimer of the Way of our Eternal High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ.
