This is my Story

“O wonderful dignity of the priests,” cries out St. Augustine, “in their hands, as in the womb of the Blessed Virgin, the Son of God becomes incarnate.”

Born into a devout family on June 4, 1959, I hail from Talibon, Bohol, Philippines. My parents, who had great devotion to the Holy Eucharist, had an overwhelming desire to have a priest in our family, so they pinned their hopes on any of their five sons. I realized God had His eye on me when I began contemplating entering a seminary after high school. During more than a decade of studies, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Classical Philosophy (Royal and Conciliar San Carlos Seminary), Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology (Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas), and Master of Science degree in Educational Management (De La Salle University). At long last, on March 1, 1986, I saw myself receive the sublime dignity and power of priesthood at the Minor Basilica of the Holy Child of Cebú, commonly known as Santo Niño Basilica, in Cebu City.

As a member of the Order of Saint Augustine (an international religious order), I served in different areas of Augustinian apostolate in the Philippines in various capacities, such as high school guidance counselor, high school treasurer, college faculty member, college chaplain, college regent, school vice-president for academic affairs, school president, assistant parish priest, parish priest, minor seminary spiritual director, and minor seminary rector, among others.

After visiting some Augustinian communities in Europe in 2004, as part of my sabbatical activities, I went to Virginia to work as administrator, assistant pastor, and pastor of some cluster parishes in the Diocese of Richmond, especially in Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Elkton, and Quinque.

I set foot in Newfoundland on April 17, 2011. I temporarily ministered in Bishop’s Falls and Badger before I was appointed on June 22, 2011 as Administrator of St. Pius X Parish in Baie Verte and St. John the Apostle Parish in Brent’s Cove and their missions. I was named Administrator of the Holy Cross Parish in Holyrood and SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Harbour Main on June 26, 2014. On September 6, 2014, I began administering a third parish, St. Alphonsus Parish in Whitbourne, and its missions. Since September 14, 2015, I have been the Administrator of St. Patrick’s Parish in Brigus and All Hallows Parish in North River and their missions.

I obtained official permission to leave the Order of Saint Augustine to become a diocesan priest on October 6, 2020. On November 11, 2020 Most Reverend R. Anthony Daniels incardinated me into the Diocese of Grand Falls.
